Lead Academy- A week-long training program aimed at bringing together 15 - 30 emerging leaders to develop skills for combating challenges inhibiting development in Africa and the African Diaspora.
The project for which this funding is being sought is Lead Academy with the theme, "Strengthening the Active Role of the African Diaspora.'' In March 2019, the German government announced a new Africa policy which seeks to roll out a new billion-euro fund for supporting investments by both German and African companies in Africa. However, there is still a major disconnect and lack of proper engagements among the German policymakers, civil society bodies and the African diaspora.
Lead Academy believes in the new Africa policy as a welcome development provided it is complemented with activities that educate key stakeholders to understand the policy and strives to improve it through feedbacks from continuous engagements. Without proper education and sensitization of the African diaspora about this new policy, there will be recurring situations of skepticism, protests, lack of support and inability to play the much needed active role in the implementation of the policy.
Africa Diasporas will engage in five strategic areas of Peacebuilding, development, migration, working with African partners and more cooperation with civil society. Our aim is to facilitate better engagements between the African diaspora in Baden Wurttemberg and representatives of German federal departments responsible for Africa policy, as well as to increase Baden-Wuttermberg citizens' knowledge about development issues in Africa and create awareness about opportunities.
