By Katherine Mayberry - Executive Director, Pigeon Creek Shakespeare
The Lake Effect Fringe Festival has taken over Grand Rapids' Dog Story Theater for the month of February. 8 different West Michigan-based performance groups have entertained audiences with shows ranging from improv comedy, to brand new plays by local playwrights, to Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde. Performances have been selling out regularly, and the audience response has been wonderful. The groups participating in the festival are Cangue League, GEM Theatrics, the Grand Valley Shakespeare Festival, No Outlet Improv, the Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company, Southside Theater Company, Stark Turn Players, and University Wits.
We are really greatful for your support of this project. Plans are shaping up for next year's festival, and any further donations we receive will go towards those plans. Your contributions have helped to provide a performance space for the festival, to hire a festival stage manager, and to promote these theatre groups' outstanding work. We hope that we can continue with this project that provides our local audiences with outstanding, professional quality theater. The LEFF has also led to new collaboration between West Michigan theatre groups, as we join together to promote each other's work.
