La Balsa works as a assistance device aimed at homeless children and adolescents. Currently, it is the only Center for overnight for women in the City of Buenos Aires. Based on this reality, La Balsa focuses its work on generating a deeper look, with a gender perspective, accompanying girls and adolescents in their empowerment. At the same time, La Balsa collaborates in the construction of their role as free and independent women, providing them with solid tools so they can fend for themselves.
There are thousands of children and young people in the city of Buenos Aires who are homeless and cannot link up with their families in that situation and are subject to extreme vulnerability. At present, as a result of the pandemic, the poverty rate in Argentina will increase to at least 50% and child poverty will be at least 60% so we need to strengthen this project in the order in which our target population is likely to grow in the coming months.
We work within a framework of restitution of rights, providing support and understanding; professional attention and articulation with other institutions for the development and implementation of unique strategies, built together with the children and young people who attend. The children approach La Balsa in different ways, with permanence and voluntary participation.
Our integral attention from covering supply of basic needs, lunch and a snack and throughout strengthening social skills with educational and cultural workshops allows to the children and young people to have a new perspective about the world
