Dear Supporter of the Kostya Proletarsky Animated Documentary Film!
We would like to update you on the progress we made with your kind support in the production of the film.
Our crowdfunding campaign was very successful. We received 8190 USD, from 77 private donors and two organisations, JES-Bundesverband and AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW).
This amount of support allows us to continue working on the film, and we are doing good progress. We are ready with more than two thirds of the film. We have many new scenes already edited and a lot more in drawing phase. We hope to finish the film by the second part of 2019.
I attach for you some stills from the new scenes we already produced.
We keep searching for funds, and the crowdfunding campaign is still on, and you can further support us by sharing one of the language versions of the campaign with your friends.
Finally next week we will launch our online fundraising campaign. We have built a summary website on Drugreporter in three languages. the English site is available here: http://www.drugreporter.net/kostya
We are promoting the campaign in September in Budapest with postcards, and journalist's support, and until the end of the year at international conferences as well.
In the meantime we are continously working on the animation. We are now working on several new scenes, including childhood, home, and disco scenes. You can find atached some pictures of the new scenes.
We will keep you updated on the production and how the fundraising goes.
We have decided to postpone the start of our crowdfunding campaign until September, because summer would not be the best timing for the launch. We tried film funds, but with no success until now, so we will rely hevily on crowdfunding on GlobalGiving once we finally launch the campaign. In the meantime we are working on the film, many new scenes coming in from Lili, who is doing all the animations.
I am now traveling in Russia, to film about Global Fund funded HIV prevention services in the country. We are visiting 6 cities, and film about amazing harm reduction sefvices for drug users, sex workers, people in the LGBTQ comminuty.
While in St. Petersburg, I walked around to find location scenes for the animation. I made pictures at corridors of houses where people used to inject, and I went to the Botkin Hospital, where Kostya was treated. It was very emotional, and meant a lot for me.
Now we are off to Ekaterinburg, where we continue our filming.
We have made very good progress with the film. We are now ready with a 7 minute long pilot version. We have recorded music to the 7 minute pilot film, and finalised the animations. The music is a saxophone and guitar piece, recorded by the director and graphic artist.
We have identified 6 film funds where we will submit the film for fundraising purposes. We will launch the online fundraising campaign on GlobalGiving only if film funds allow for that. Therefore we are not promoting the GlobalGiving fundraiser yet.
We are planning to finish the final film by mid 2019.
We are working hard on the pilot and trailer versions of the animation. We do not launch the fundraising campaign publicly on GlobalGiving until we are ready with the trailer.
We have added the last animated pieces of the pilot. We are now fixing the length, backgrounds and colors. We also started to work on the atmospheres. We are collecting free soundsamples online, and use those as the background noises. We are working on the sound fixing of the original audio interviews.
According to our plans we are finalizing the pilot and trailer in December 2017.
