African Promise is nearing completion of the construction of the first phase of buildings at Kisimenyi which includes two 4-room tuition blocks as well as a library, office & staffroom block and nursery school. This reaches 295 children and has gone from groundbreaking to nearing completion in the past 3 months. We have also installed twenty- six modern sanitation units which provide facilities for 52 children. Remaining work includes the erection of the ceiling in one of the tuition blocks, the laying of the stone floors in all buildings and final fitting and decorating. We continue to raise funds to furnish the school as well as to construct a third tuition block and kitchen.

Kids4Kenya - Visiting Kasigau in April 2012

Teachers Block - Bungule
In April, Peter and Georgie Teuten visited Kasigau, Kenya to review the progress underway at the 6 schools in the region.
We found that while so much work has been done, there is inevitably so much more still to do. The 8 classroom block at Kisimenyi is taking shape and the foundations for the classroom block at Makwasinyi are being laid, as well as a number of other initiatives that are in process in each of the other schools at Jora, Rukanga and Kithege.
High on the list of needs is boundary fencing for each of the schools, the current lack of which is preventing the schools from growing food crops and also compromising local security.
In addition, the teachers accommodations are in extremely poor condition, and in urgent need of replacement and renovation.
Despite all these issues identified and the urgent need of each, the kids and the communities in Kasigau are upbeat and beginning to show real tangible benefits from our efforts. School academic scores are increasing and class sizes continue to fall as new facilities come on line. Sanitation and feeding facilities are improving and the future is so much brighter thanks to the generosity of our donors and much hard work on the ground.

Kds4Kenya Proudly in the Comunity
Kids4Kenya will be traveling to Kisimenyi during the first two weeks of April 2012 in order to help African Promise with the completion of the school project.
We have raised almost $3,000 to distribute during the trip - this money will go towards the build out of two fully equipped classrooms at Kisimenyi, with capacity for up to 60 students.
Thanks to everyone who has helped us to accumulate these desperately needed funds!
There is much more still to be done, but with the continued support of the Kids4Kenya community, we will continue to enhance our mission and create educational opportunities where none would otherwise have existed.
