Construction of our first pilot kindergarten in Abu Nahala village in Darfur has started - an exciting day for the village. The Village Development Committee leader has completed all the formalities regarding the building including obtaining the licence for building the kindergarten and liaising with the Department of Education to ensure the provision of a teacher. With the first instalment of funds received from KIDS FOR KIDS, the village purchased 40,000 red bricks and the foundation stone was laid on 3rd February 2013. By 26th February 2013 the walls had reached 2 metres in height. The community has provided all the unskilled labour as part of the community share of the cost of the construction of the kindergarten. Women have played a key role in this work. Once the village learned that the price of the bricks was increasing fast due to the rate of inflation in the current, the community decided to produce the red bricks inside the village to reduce the cost of transport. The village invited the Pre-School Manager at the Ministry of Education in North Darfur to visit to see the progress of the construction and he has promised to supply doors and windows for the kindergarten. KIDS FOR KIDS is currently investigating the purchase of playh equipment for the kindrergarten. The nillage is looking forward excitedly to the opening of the kindergarten.
