When Splash partners with a school, students' opportunity to thrive increases. This is not just because of the clean water they are drinking, but also because they learn the importance of washing their hands with soap and gain access to improved toilet facilities.
Your support for Splash goes well beyond providing durable water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure at schools. It also helps ensure that kids are actively engaged in changing student and teacher behaviors. In Kolkata, we work with democratic student leadership structures (called child cabinets) that already exist in every school. These student groups receive training on Splash's engaging, activity-focused curriculum to:
Educate other students and use positive peer pressure to ensure kids wash their hands with soap before the mid-day meal and after using the toilet
Work with teachers to organize soap drives and make sure soap is always available at the handwashing stations
Keep school grounds clean and free of garbage
Encourage others not to waste water and to use it appropriately
As the year comes to a close, we are excited to tell you about our plans for 2020. We aim to reach 150 schools serving approximately 60,000 children in Kolkata, India! Thank you for investing in Splash, and supporting children to learn and lead.
