Kick Obesity and NCDs Cameroon is a health awareness campaign launched by Sports and Health Development Organization [SHDO] to sensitize urban and rural communities in the North West Region of Cameroon about the role of sports/physical activity especially in preventing noncommunicable diseases [NCDs] like Hypertension, diabetes and obesity. We plan to launch FREE body health screening, indoor and outdoor fitness training in Bamenda urban area.
Obesity is becoming a major health problem in Africa especially in Cameroon. Obesity is linked to increase risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and other chronic conditions caused by living a sedentary lifestyle. In Cameroon, the prevalence of diabetes in adults in urban areas is currently estimated at 6 - 8%, with as much as 80% of people living with diabetes who are currently undiagnosed in the population.
SHDO aims at screening 5000 people in Bamenda for diabetes and high blood pressure. We also plan to offer outdoor and indoor Fitness training, massage and weight control workshops where we can train participants on how to control what they eat, how they eat and when they eat .
This project will educate over 5000 community dwellers on the importance of dieting and physical fitness . Our programs will definitely drop down the high rates of NCDs and enable people to adapt preventive health measures while cut the cost of buying expensive medication.
