Women in Kenya have a high rate of maternal mortality (631 deaths
per 100,000 live births). In a recent
study released by the United Nations Population fund (UNFPA) that number has
declined to 531 (deaths per 100,000), demonstrating improved outcomes for women
in Kenya.
While Jhpiego program activities to increase knowledge,
access and use of family planning and reproductive health services in Kenya’s
urban areas are ongoing, the project begun in 2010 and now in its third year,
the Kenya Urban Reproductive Health Initiative - Tupange, is fully functioning
and seeing progress towards goals targeted for 2014.

While the funds collected on Global Giving to support this
effort were very small, they contributed to helping bring the Tupange project
into full operation where it continues to make progress towards allowing women
to have access to family planning services so that they can flourish as mothers
and members of society.
