Buy formula milk for 10 babies whose mothers died in childbirth so they can stay with their Grandmothers, who have the love to give but not the means to buy formula- which is often 2 weeks earning to provide one week of milk. 4 main reasons children arrive in orphanage care: Death of mother. Lack of access to care for preschool-age children. No foster caregivers to care for abandoned children. Poverty. Lack of financial means especially for grandmothers who are parenting after a parents death

When their Mum died Umi and Tuma were left without any source of food and in a family who was grieving, panicking and scared. Felling vulnerable many will grab hold of the first solution offered. In Tanzania: that is the orphanage. We can change that. A Gov Social Worker stated her frustration as a malnutrition officer that she would either have to break up a family or send families away without way of feeding their children. This was a pattern seen over and over again.

Maisha Matters empowers Tanzanian families to care for their children. We give initial life-saving support that will permanently allow them to move themselves out of poverty. Together we can save lives, support babies and ensure that every child knows the love of a family by supporting the extended families to care for the children with formula milk, training, and support that we provide these children. We provide: Immediate nutrition needs Emergency support for families Weekly review sessions

Long-Term Impact

These children stay in their families. Children do not have to leave their families and go into an orphanage. Families get the support they need to confidently care for children in their family. We will help 10 children and their associated family.
