African Promise Update Spring 2010

By Peter Teuten | President, Kids4Kenya

Ready for the next step...

Two years on: more schools, another big step for Charles, a UK office, a UK team…

It's just two short years since African promise founder Charles Coldman took the biggest step of his life and moved to Kenya to begin directing the work of African Promise on the ground in Kenya. Now, with the charity well on its way to transforming the five Kasigau primary schools, having built a local team to oversee the work and with a reputation for making change happen, African Promise is ready to take the next step.

Five schools is soon to become six, six will become seven by mid 2011. In time, seven will become many, many more.

To realize this vision, African Promise is changing. From July we will take occupancy of some space in a shared London office and, assisted by volunteers, we will seek to drastically raise our profile and fundraising activities in the UK and elsewhere. I will return from Kenya, leaving the day-to-day management of our operations there to our local managers, in order to over-see the establishment of our presence in the UK.

We will still be small. We will still be effective. We will still be efficient. But we’re ambitious. We’re making a real difference to the futures of hundreds of school children and we want to do the same for many, many more. We believe we can.

I want to thank the many friends of the charity who have helped us get to this stage. We couldn’t have done it without you. These are exciting times for everybody involved with African Promise and we hope you will stay with us as we continue to grow and develop.
