The son of Maria de Lourdes, Rogério, was born with sickle cell anemia, a hereditary disease that causes malformation of red blood cells. But it was not until the boy passed by a surgery appendage to it was discovered that the problem of their severe abdominal pain was not appendicitis. Referred to Hospital da Lagoa, the disease was quickly diagnosed and the boy was treaty. The life of Maria de Lourdes, however, was already seriously affected.

Separated from her husband, she could not work. Due to the constant child crises, Maria de Lourdes spent the time leading Rogério to the doctor or watching him while  in the hospital. Working as a Maid and manicure, frequently she was missing  work: "I felt  like a useless  woman," she says. "When I got a steady job, he got sick and I had to miss." With self-esteem shaken Maria was refer to  Saúde Criança. That's when everything began to change.

She  took a professional course of manicure,  hairdressing, makeup and colorimetry. Rogerio made the beauty  course to be a hairdressing and  in his grandfather's house, set up a small salon with barber chair donated by ASC. Maria de Lourdes is transformed: "Now I feel like a true professional!"She says, adding that with the increase of income already managed to buy a sink and a chair manicure. She wants to work with the child and it is already planning to expand the salon, with floor and door donated by ASC.

Rogerio goes well with the disease controlled and Maria de Lourdes sends a message to mothers that are coming to Saúde Criança: "Do not miss this opportunity, enjoy. Saúde Criança has been a blessing in my life. "
