Give Argentine Youth a Chance

by Fundacion Cimientos

Greetings, friends!

As you already know, one of the primary objectives of the Cimientos Graduate Network is to help our high school graduates continue their studies. We are currently supporting 30 students with scholarships that will allow them to study at the college level and ultimately earn professional degrees. So far this year they are all enjoying college life and working very hard to succeed in their studies! We’d like to share some of their personal testimonies with you.

Hi. Everything went really well this first quarter. I’m taking five subjects, and I’ll be able to advance in all of them except Social Work I (I still have to take the final in December). I’m really happy because this month I started my professional training practicals, which I know will help reinforce my choice of concentrations. At least for the time being I’m really enjoying the material and starting to feel more comfortable. Thanks so much for asking!

Chascomús, Buenos Aires

Hi! I’m doing great. I’m studying accounting at the University of Buenos Aires. This is my third year so I’ve now begun to take the professional courses. I’m super busy this year with lots of extra activities like a health workshop and an internship. Next year I hope to actually start working!!! So luckily everything is going smoothly. Thanks so much for checking in.

CPA candidate, University of Buenos Aires

Hi! I passed one of my three subjects last quarter, but I am not going to let this get me down. This second quarter I am working very hard to pass all three subjects with flying colors, and I know that I can do it! Thank you very much for thinking of me; I continue to be so grateful for all of your support.

Longchamps, Buenos Aires

I’m doing well in my classes. Lately we’ve been doing lots of practical work, and we’ve been given pre-exams in some courses. I’m taking five classes this quarter, and I have three finals to turn in at the end of the year. I hope to turn in all of them this year, probably some in December and some in February. I really hope I make it!!

Dear Friends:

On Sunday August 12ve, the world celebrates the International Youth Day. In the spirit of this special holiday we’d like to share some of the things we’ve been up to in the past several months.

-On July and August the Cimientos Graduate Network has shared two breakfasts with our young participants. It was a very enriching experience both for the graduates as well as the participating members of the Cimientos team.

- On August 9th we attended the International Young Leaders’ Summit with 5 graduates, who were able to listen to inspiring leaders from different countries and share an enriching day with hundreds of young people from all over Latin America.

“I think it has been a really interesting opportunity because they gave us the possibility of knowing people from different countries, with different professional positions and that gave us another way of seeing things. I think this type of events makes us grow in our professional career.  I am very happy of having assisted to the International Young Leaders” - Belén

We would like to take this opportunity to share as well this video from one of the members of the Graduate Network:

Thanks for making it possible for low income Argentine youth to get jobs and further their education this year!

Dear friends,

On Wednesday June 13th, GlobalGiving is hosting a Bonus Day! If you donate to 'Job Training and Education for Argentine Youth' Project. on Wednesday, Global Giving will match your donation by 30%, 40% or 50% increasing your impact!

As you can imagine, this is a wonderful opportunity for Cimientos to help fund our Project which will provide poor Argentine youth who graduated high-school and Cimientos programs with good job opportunities, employment tools and education resources so they can obtain jobs, receive a higher education and escape poverty.

If you want to make another contribution to our cause, Wednesday would be a perfect day. Another huge help would be just spreading the word with your friends and family about our project - share the link on your blogs or social networks, use the tell-a-friend feature on the project page to email your network, or just bring us up in conversation. This could increase our donors as well as our possibilities of reaching more poor Argentine youth!

Thank you again for all you have done yourself to help this cause and please write to us if you would like to receive any other information about our work.

With gratitude,

Teresa Muro

Dear friends,

In these last few months, the Cimientos Graduate Network has shared two breakfasts with our young participants - one with graduates who are studying and another with graduates who are working. It was a very enriching experience both for the graduates as well as the participating members of the Cimientos team.

The objective of the breakfasts was to identify the difficulties graduates confront as they begin to work or to study in order to continue improving the service we provide them. We also wanted to provide a venue for the graduates to share their experiences and learn from each other. At both breakfasts participation was very animated, and as a result we were able to determine some of the most compelling needs that characterize the moment of leaving high school.

We also wanted to tell you that in Argentina we celebrate Labor Day on May 1st; your contribution will give more young Argentines a reason to celebrate this holiday!

The Cimientos Team

Queridos amigos,

Dear GlobalGiving Friends,

Last year we worked hard to keep our New Years resolutions to help our graduates, meaning that in 2011:

  • 1436 participants received useful information about education, employment or job-training opportunities to help them reach their personal and professional goals
  • 381 graduates are subscribed to our Graduates’ blog and 316 became Facebook friends with us after we created our page earlier this year.
  •  469 participants graduated from high school and Cimientos’ School Scholarship Program.
  • 281 of our recent high school graduates joined the Graduates Network.
  • 463 graduates received vital job training such as how to search for a job, computer skills, and accounting lessons.
  • 35 participants were granted scholarships to further their education.
  • 3 participants proudly graduated from college. They all had scholarships that the Graduates Network helped them receive, greatly increasing their ability to attend and stay in school through the end.
  • 27 graduates found jobs thanks to our help.
  • 98 participants volunteered at Cimientos.
  • 6 graduates participated in our new Project “Youth Leaders”.
  • 4 graduates meetings were held with a total of 41 participants.
  • 3 participants that had to re-take their final exams finally graduated from high school with the help of our personalized mentoring.
  • 69 NGOs, universities and fcompanies worked together with the Graduates´ Network to provide low income Argentine youth with job opportunities, employment training and education resources.

Like us, was one of your New Years resolutions to do a good deed for someone else? Now you can! Help us keep our New Year’s resolutions for 2012 and keep yours to give back by supporting us or by spreading the word  to your friends about the life-changing work we do today!

Thanks for making it possible for low income Argentine youth to get jobs and further their education this year!
