Meeting Michelle Obama
Meeting Michelle Obama

Dear friends,

On 23rd March, Cimientos was invited to attend to 2 events organized by the U.S.A Embassy, due to Barack and Michelle Obama´s visit to Argentina.

In the morning, we went with 5 girls of 16 years old to meet Michelle Obama. She gave out an inspirational speech in front of women students and teachers from 16 schools of Buenos Aires. She wanted all the attendees to convert themselves in agents of change, and to follow the example of all those brave women who lived in our country. Our girls spent an unforgettable moment next to Michelle.

In the afternoon we went with 7 youth between 18 and 23 years old to meet Barack Obama, who gave another great speech and spent a whole hour answering questions of hundreds of youth who attended this meeting.

Everyone was really glad to have been invited to these events, it was their first time near a politician so it was incredible for them to meet such important people.

Thanks for making it possible for low income Argentine youth get opportunities as this one and to get their first jobs and foster their education!

Best regards,

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Dear friends,

This year is coming to an end and we have plenty of things to give thanks for... We will share our annual results in our next report because we are still working hard until the last minute to help more youth find their first job... This report is to thank every one of you because we were able to offer many opportunities to low income youth and this was possible thanks to your donations.

December is a really special month to us because school classes finish in Argentina so it´s a great month to celebrate the graduation of new children. This year we had almost 400 youth that finish high school and many of them got excellent grades and were the best pupils of their whole class!!!!!

December is also a special month because all over the world people celebrate Christmas and New Year and like to give special presents to their beloved ones. Please consider giving a gift card of our project to your family and friends. This can make a huge difference to our project, increasing our impact in low-income youth lives!

On this report we want to share with you a picture of part of Cimientos´ team. We took it specially for you on our last year toast, where we all wished to keep up the hard work we´ve been doing for the last 18 years in our beloved Argentina.

Happy Holidays and best regards,

Last winter holidays we had our 2nd Graduates Network meeting where we welcomed future graduates of class 2015. More than forty students participated in this activity. In the morning, we introduced ourselves and talked about different topics concerning their future plans, such as job hunting and university applications.

Later that day, we visited Cimientos' office, met some of the NGO staff and had lunch together. We raffled prizes.

In the afternoon, students could participate in a workshop of their choice among different options: Working skills, Entrepreneurship and vocational guidance.

It was a very motivating and productive working day. The youths were excited to participate and meet others from different schools and neighborhoods. During winter holidays, we also visited LAN airline office where youths met employees, listened to their professional experiences and asked them questions about corporate work life. We walked through different areas in the offices and airport base at  Jorge Newbery Airport.

To end this report, we have some news! The final YouthSpark Bonus Day is coming up on October 7! Microsoft will MATCH DONATIONS received between 12.00 pm and 23.59 pm EDT!, so there you have an excellent chance to donate!

Thank you very much!

On June 16th we hosted a meeting with representatives of Human Resources of different companies to promote among the private sector the importance of implementing youth employment policies. Our team presented youth employment problems data and statistics in Argentina and Latin America focusing also in the gender inequalities that still persist in our country and region.

Following this, we carried out a group activity where all the participants had to choose a position to employ the candidates whose CV’s our team handed out. Fortunately most of our candidates were potentially employable by this HR teams.

This meeting purpose was to promote consciousness among the private sector to boost youth employment opportunities in our country.

The next meeting will take place on July 21th with our future graduates’ class 2015 during their winter holidays.
