Johanna Justin-Jinich Community Clinic: September News & Updates

The Johanna Justin-Jinich Community Clinic
The Johanna Justin-Jinich Community Clinic

September Greetings from Shining Hope for Communities!  We are gearing up for an exciting fall, and can't thank you enough for your continued support as we grow and expand our impact. Enjoy the updates on our programs below, and we look forward to being in touch again soon!

Johanna Justin-Jinich Community Clinic

Our clinic HIV services are currently undergoing expansion.  Our clinic will soon be able to provide ARVs to children. In addition, through a partnership with the Ministry of Health and Malteser International, we will soon be able to provide comprehensive TB treatment and care!

Youth Peer Provider Program: Sexual Health Education

Our partnership with Planned Parenthood International is helping to expand our Youth Peer Provider (YPP) program, which trains local youth to educate their peers about sexual and reproductive health. We've started to make plans for the expansion, which will include turning a floor of our second community center into a YPP dedicated space that will be used for youth meetings, workshops, and distribution of sexual and reproductive health information and materials.

Kibera School for Girls

We are thrilled to announce that Headmistress Anne Olwande has given birth to a healthy baby girl! Born on the day of our students' triumphant success at Kenya's National Poetry and Elocution Festival, Headmistress Anne's beautiful baby girl is named Aileen in honor of the poem the students performed: 'After a Bath' by Aileen Fisher.

We are enrolling a new class of students in January 2013 and are on the search for dedicated individuals, like you, who are interested in supporting of our new pre-kindergarteners. If you know anyone who would be interested in sponsoring one of our new students, please don't hesitate to put them in contact with the Director of KSG Sponsorship: Sponsorship support will cover education expenses (teacher salaries, school supplies and curriculum), daily nourishment (two meals/day), psychosocial support, uniforms, field trips, and primary healthcare at our Johanna Justin-Jinich Community Clinic.  Sponsor funds may also be used to cover the costs of prescription medications, eyeglasses, dental work, and even special dietary needs. Unfortunately, without sponsorship funds, these needs and others are often not met.

Pledge your next birthday for SHOFCO!

Instead of birthday presents, rally your friends and family to donate on your behalf to bring hope to the lives of men, women, and children in the Kibera slum. Your birthday will help Shining Hope for Communities provide free education for Kibera's most vulnerable girls, comprehensive community healthcare, youth soccer programs, women's empowerment groups-- and much more!

Your birthday is the perfect opportunity to make a difference! What impact do you want to make? Start your birthday campaign today.
