Born with a rare brain deformity called septo-optic dysplasia, which affects balance and his eyesight, Khunou cannot walk without crutches. Ipeleng is running toraise disability awareness and raise funds for the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund. 2018 is Nelson Mandela's centenary year, we will be celebrating his legacy and the impact he continues to have in transforming the lives of children, youth, and the greater community.
With 51% of children falling victim to sexual abuse and 21% victim's to assault with grievous harm, child safety is a significant, multi-faceted and complex issue. Widespread poverty, inequality, unemployment, inadequate housing etc. all contribute to the social factors that fuel violence. A key theme surfacing includes that of the restoration of the family unit and moral sets. Over 87 000 children live in child headed households.
"It takes a community to raise a child" Community led initiatives play a pivotal role. We partner and provide support (skill, funds, governance, leadership e.t.c) to community/faith based organisations, schools, clinics, NGO's. Unlocking the power of the community will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of our children. We capacitate communities and focus on children from 0 -22 years, supporting, guiding & building them to be responsible Global Citizens. Be the legacy!!!
Collectively we find ways of creating platforms for communities to actively participate and engage in a self-sustaining manner so that responsibility is owned by the community. This mechanism educate children about their rights, enables them to identify violations. Lessons are taught at an age appropriate level to help combat the upward trend in child violence. Respect for children and zero tolerance toward abuse is communicated to society and communities as a whole.
