Investing in Minds is a teacher training program supporting teachers in Ghana. The program supports teachers by providing access to professional development, continuous learning, essential resources and 1 to 1 support. Therefore ensuring teachers are equipped to provide children with quality education, the kind that makes the difference between children remaining in poverty or escaping it. This programme benefits 60 teachers and the 700 children they teach annually.
Teachers in Ghana receive none to very little on going support to improve their knowledge, competency and skills. Teachers also face overcrowded classes and lack of teaching resources, resulting in many students remaining illiterate, with significant knowledge gaps and unable to reach their full potential, therefore leaving them at a disadvantage. Nhoma is tackling the lack of opportunities and access to support offered to teachers in Ghana to further their learning and professional development.
Nhoma's teacher training programme, Investing in Minds, offers interactive workshops whereby teachers increase their knowledge and insights, develop their confidence, practice and self-awareness and gain access to resources needed to succeed in the classroom. Teachers learn how to support and engage students in learning therefore ensuring each student not only progresses but excels. As a result hundreds of children have better career prospects with the education they receive.
Nhoma's goal in 2018 is to provide 60 teachers in rural Ghana with teacher training through our project Investing in Minds. The training offered to these teachers will directly impact the lives of the 700 children they teach. Nhoma's vision is that each teacher who receives support from Nhoma will be able to influence not only the minds and life chances of their pupils, but also how education is taught in Ghana.
