This project consists in the construction of a community greenhouse and an environmental education workshop cicle in the Valparaiso Region, Chile. The objective of these spaces is to meet the educational and recreational needs of communities within the framework of caring for the environment, contact with nature and food sustainability. The main beneficiaries of this initiative are children and older adults, positioning them as main agents of the changes that our planet needs today.
Majority of people living in Chile don't have access to nearby green areas, which directly affects life's quality of all people, including childrens. In addition, over 50,000 people in the Valparaiso region live in a sacrifice zone, named like this because of the pollution from industrial activity. Communities need to access natural spaces, as well as receiving information and education about the impacts of the environment on their daily lives, such as the air they breathe or the food they eat.
Build new green spaces in the cities, with the aim of housing educational instances promoted by the Minga Valpo Foundation within the framework of caring for the environment and food sustainability. In addition, these greenhouses will be social meeting points, which will generate cohesion among its members around the generation of several initiatives appropriate to the current and future needs of communities around the environment.
With the construction of green areas and greenhouses, you're helping to: (1) Raise awareness about the environment and improve the life's quality of people as a result of collective work in orchards. (2) Contribute with spaces for nearly 50,000 people who live in Concon and surrounding territories. (3) Children receive lessons on environmental education and care for nature. (4) Training for youth and workers on sustainability themes. (5) Recreational and educational activities for older adults.
