Around the world more than 1 billion young people, ages 15-24, make up the largest youth population in history. This disproportionally high number of young people faces many challenges. Far too many lack basic human needs such as food and shelter, while an enormous proportion do not possess the skills necessary to stay in school, obtain and keep a rewarding job, and become positively engaged in their community.
The International Youth Foundation is mobilizing a global community of businesses, governments, and civil society organizations to address the array of challenges facing young people. IYF develops creative solutions, such as using technology to improve the quality of education, and designing demand-driven programs that teach youth marketable skills that employers are seeking. IYF helps young people successfully transition into adulthood.
In 2011, IYF helped nearly 1 million youth in 68 countries learn, work, and lead. It achieves this impact through a diverse portfolio of projects, including: Passport to Success - a life skills program that has reached more than 61,500 young people in 15 countries; YouthActionNet - a leadership and mentorship program that has impacted over 600 social entrepreneurs from 71 countries; and entra21 - a livelihoods training program that has trained 136,000 youth in 22 Latin American countries.
