Integrity Icon is a movement to celebrate honest civil servants around the world. Now in its fifth year and in 7 countries, the campaign is led by civil society to "name and fame" the do-gooders in government rather than "name and shame" corrupt officials. This flips the script and creates role-models for a new generation of civil servants. Support the campaign to help cover its costs and further these efforts to build greater public sector accountability.
Corruption is estimated to cost over US $1 trillion/yr - money that should support healthcare, education and other public services. Corruption is rooted in a lack of accountability and integrity. Traditional anti-corruption campaigns often focus on calling out dishonest officials, but Integrity Icon changes the narrative - focusing on supporting the heroes within government that are pushing for a different way of doing things.
The campaign has since recognized +85 Icons who have gone on to lead reforms with the Lab's support, mentor aspiring public servants as Integrity fellows and create alliances for integrity across their respective departments and agencies. The Lab is now working with them to expand their integrity networks to do everything from developing national policies to redesigning curricula for civil service training schools.
Integrity Icon changes the narrative around the civil service in countries where it is seen as inherently corrupt; creates role models for talented young people who otherwise would never imagine government as a career path; and ultimately rebuilds trust between the state and citizens. Integrity Icon can help us all think about the world we'd like to see, and provides a platform for us to support the people that can make this future a reality.
