In India, lack of basic information & access to healthcare is causing huge public health burdens.In India, we lose 5.87 million people/year to preventable diseases. We at MAYAHealth empower local women to be micro-entrepreneurs who are technology enabled to deliver affordable preventive services. Services are focused on Health education, screening- monitoring, referrals & delivery of health positive products to the door steps of lower-middle income families in Channapatna.
Without adequate knowledge, mindsets of people towards health would remain reactive. Globally, 400 million people have poor access to healthcare. In Channapatna,70% of the population accesses health services only once they fall ill. Diabetes, hypertension and malnutrition are killing millions. Last mile connect/delivery of healthcare in the country is overburdened. Every 3rd Indian travels 19 miles for basic healthcare & is often too late. Health costs force 55 million Indians into poverty.
Our focus is to enable preventive healthcare & ensure wellbeing of people we work with. Trained technology enabled, local women(Health Navigators) are innovating the delivery of health in Channapatna.They are empowered to study community health needs, design localized solutions, promote health education & health+ve products direct to homes. Health data is collected, analysed & managed using handhelds, they support government programs, leverage existing ecosystems and building new partnerships.
The project will educate & provide preventive healthcare services to 6000 low income families, supporting them to take ownership of their health & rise out of poverty.In Channapatna we have seen observable changes in behavior, lifestyle, food habits & overall health parameters of beneficiaries over past 2 years.We can see an increase in local credibility which supports long term improvements in socio-economic standing of our health workers aswell!
