On 28 September 2018, the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 on the Richter scale shook the city of Palu, Donggala and Sigi Regency, which was followed by the tsunami at 17.22. There are 2,256 peoples died, 1,309 peoples lost, 4,612 luka-luka dan 223,751 peoples in 122 refugees camp. Through observation that we have done and continued with field survey by local field workers, we see the needs of the peoples in the area and set up a recovery program.
Local fishermen who have no boats can only be trapped in refugee camps and cannot work for their living and household. The local schools are destroyed, the children can't access to education. Although the affected residents and children are gathered together and are supported with supplies and assistance, they still have to deal with the fear of disaster, the confusion of facing the future, and other negative emotions. However, there is no channel or method to express or get relief.
We will help refugees to build Fish Aggregating Device, to give them small ship with propeller machine and fishnet. For the peoples in Kulawi area, we will help them in animal husbandry and also in agriculture. We will build temporary schools, so the children can study in better situations. We will continue to serve the children who have traumatic experience through singing, games, and counseling if needed.
In this project, we will serve 771 families in six refugees camp, it's about 3,084 persons.
