Summary

The beneficiaries of the project are Tamil Plantation women and Girls. They are the poorest of the poor, often the slaves of the slaves, because we consider them to be the most oppressed and under-privileged group in our country today. The beneficiaries are approximately 720 women, who are working as workers on three plantations in the Matale Divisional Secretary's area of Matale District. They are years in age between 18-35 . The women are extremely poor living below the poverty line.

Challenge

Living condition of the Tea Plantation women is very poor. They work on the plantation for 8 hours. Anther that they work at their homes for many house. They prepare the meals for the entire family, which consists of approximately 8 members. They look after their children, grand mother, grand father, father-in-low, mother-in-low etc. They bring water to their house for their house-hold work. They wash soiled cloths. women have to work in their vegetable gardens after their work.

Solution

a)This project provides skills for income generation among women of plantations. Business development and financial management tools will be provided through IT and micro enterprise management courses empowering women to control their lives. b) Goat milk allows poor families to improve their economic and to give their children animal protein otherwise this will out of reach goat manure fertilizers gardens providing other essential nutrition. Plants grow to feed the goat reduce soil erosion.

Long-Term Impact

Goat rearing will get 100 poor and disadvantaged plantation women a better livelihood which will be boost their confidence. They will be able to meet basic requirements of family as children education by selling milk, manure and meat which they will get from goat rearing and the poverty will definitely get reduced.
