COVID-19 Pandemic marks unprecedented time in modern history that will require the best of humanity to overcome. The new coronavirus has forced over 15 million learners in over 3600 schools in Uganda from diverse geographies to sit in their homes. Over 80 per cent of these learners come from vulnerable, marginalized and poor families who are facing starvation in addition to the exclusion of their children from access to learning materials.

The project enables teachers to continue teaching their learners from their homes during and after the lockdown. Engaging parents in the learning of their children improve communication and relationship between teachers and children. Providing extra support such as masks, transport and fees top-up ensures that students especially girls feel safe and secure to resume studies. Students who will not return to school in June can continue learning with support of teachers and parents from home

Long-Term Impact

The project will set a pace for schools to invest in online learning and digital technologies and continue to involve parents in teaching and learning of their children, which has not been the case. The online application used to connect teachers and parents will be scaled up to other schools after the pandemic to promote inclusiveness in education and learning.
