This initiative will focus on three keys areas that are sanitation, water and hygiene. They should be change on personal hygiene behaviors, accessibility to clean and safe water and general sanitation provision- (improved waste management and hand washing with soap) through the use of appropriate community-led Total Sanitation (CLTS) tools and Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST), as part of the behavior change strategy.The approach will have number of activities on WASH.
Manyatta ,Nyallenda and Obunga has limited infrastructure provision that has led to unreliable and insufficient access to sanitation, sewerage and clean water, human activities in this slums like open defecation and poor disposal of human waste due to lack of toilets.Conditions such as straw roofs,mud earthen floor and plasters has led to visible open sewers,uncontrolled dumping of waste and polluted water resulting to unhealthy and hazardous living conditions leading to water borne diseases.
Increased awareness of the community to see the sense of proper community led sanitation and adds value to the community so that it will act with responsibility and accountability in pursuit of deciding the kind of energy to improving their areas of residence. Enhancement of knowledge, where all people living in Kisumu Informal Settlements realize the dangers that lurk in lack of proper sanitation, thus changing ways and spreading the same message
The whole community embracing the idea of community led sanitation and talking about it At least 15 ( 5 in Obunga, 5 in Nyalenda and 5 in Manyatta) model plots convinced and start using easy and affordable ways of sanitation Enhanced responsiveness by the community and its members in addressing sanitation issues in the Manyatta, Nyalenda and Obunga School kids developing a lifelong habit and acting as agents of change on water and sanitation to the school environment and community at large
