Widow Stuck With Dead Teenager Grand-Daughter and Bouncing Baby
Annet is an HIV widow whom SORAK has supported to improve her livelihood since 2011. She has been able to sail through thin and thick with two granddaughters namely Jenniffer and Lawra. Annet was able to send the two girls to school reaching as far as secondary level.
It is unfortunate that Jenniffer was defiled along the way while in senior one aged 14 years old. SORAK with support from global living donors rushed to intervene in apprehending the man responsible for defiling Jenniffer. Whereas SORAK was successful to apprehend the culprit no much was done to save the life of the girl who found it extremely difficult to deliver the baby.
What made matters worse was that Widow Annet took long to take Jenniffer to the nearest health centre in order to help Jenniffer deliver with the help of a heath profession.
The death of teenager mother notwithstanding, SORAK has been able to save the baby who has bee referred to a baby care centre 80kms away from SORAK operational area.
It is with the support of our esteemed global giving donors that SORAK has been able to settle this orphaned baby.
There is still much more to be done more especially in addressing issues of girl child sexual abuse and violence especially among girls’ orphans and vulnerable children under the care of widows.
SORAK will in the next period pay emphasis to protecting and promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights of girls under the care of our supported widows.
