Ediths'story of success
By Muhammad Kyeyune | Executive Director
Edith was all praises for SORAK Development Agency’s intervention. When our Programme staff visited her later early 2011 among other widows affected by HIV/AIDS little did she know that she would still be alive?
Edith was finally selected to benefit from our improving livelihood project. She preferred to be provided with chicken and hence got 10 of them.
When SORAK Executive Director visited Edith, she had all the joy.She indicated that her health had improved, can now afford eggs as a good diet for her HIV/AIDS affected immune system. She can sell eggs. She has also multplied her chicken increasing from 10 to 60. Edith indicated that she has sold some chicken, especially the old stock and cocks, otherwise they would have been more.
Dear supporters do you see how your few hard earned dollars can mean a lot to the lives of our once suffering HIV/AIDS widows!;your extra 40$ can assist one other widow.
Thank you for your support;

Widow sells goat and ventures into retail trade
By Muhammad Kyeyune | Executive Director
Matilda is one of our proud goat beneficiaries of the ‘improving livelihood of 200 widows affected by HIV/AIDS in Mubende district’ project.
She was visited in late September 2012.SORAK programme staff was happy to learn that Matilda’s goats provided in 2011 had multiplied. She had sold one of them raising $ 60. She used this as startup capital for a deep rural located retail shop. She deals in soap, salt, onions, and yellow bananas among others.
Matilda noted that she can now afford to meet her monthly travel expenses to Mubende Regional referral hospital for both regular reviews and collection of ARVs. The parent goat continues to produce as she earns profit from her retail shop.
Success achieved so far, has attracted more formerly stigmatized women and men to come out seeking similar support from SORAK Development Agency.
It is our prayer that all kind hearted individuals, charities, and philanthropists generously contribute to our project during this coming giving/donation season to enable us support many more widows. This will enable positive living, prolonged and decent life among widows living with HIV/AIDS.

They begun with 1 piglet, 1 chicken and can now subsist
By Muhammad Kyeyune | Executive Director
When this project begun with entrepreneurship skills training and the provision of widow own selected micro enterprises/items (piglets, chicken, goats etc) little did we know that these would mean a lot and add value to the lives of victims of the impact created by HIV/AIDS.
In the past 3 months our staff has been monitoring and had the opportunity to interact with visited widows and their orphaned dependents. It was learned that the project had added a lot of value to their once limping living conditions. Widows were busy working with their ‘Out of school’ adolescents opting for piggery chicken rearing, and local fruit and snack retailing.
Orphaned girls –daughters to the widows can now afford basic needs like body jelly and sanitary kits. This has safeguarded them from seeking sex tied gifts from men and adults who are found of infecting them with HIV/AIDS through aggravated cross-generational sex.
Most of these girls now feel that they would like to go back to school or be equipped with vocational skills like hair dressing. Our esteemed supporters how can we meet that need?
