Pamoja Tunaweza Women's Center (PTWC) provides quality and affordable health care to the people of Kilimanjaro Region. Our locally staffed clinic provides primary outpatient care to over 250 patients each month and our bi-annual two week medical outreach activities provide free care for 100-200 patients each day. We also provide support to the most vulnerable through income generating projects, payment of school fees, and health education to address the social determinants of health.
In Kilimanjaro Region people face challenges due to traditional cultural structures and as a result they are a particularly vulnerable group. Death toll resulting from common preventable diseases such as malaria, respiratory infections, water borne and water related diseases such as typhoid, cholera and dysentery is still rampant.Infant mortality and maternal mortality are still high compared to industrialized countries and over 20% of people suffer from malnutrition.
We provide quality and affordable care to residents in Kilimanjaro Region. Through our medical outreach we not only provide those in rural areas that would not have access to health care with free care, but we also link them to follow up visits at our clinic and other referral hospitals. We provide health education in response to the most prominent health issues and implement innovative income generating activities to help address the social determinants of health.
We strive to provide long term solutions to the health challenges that people in Kilimanjaro Region face. Through our health education we hope to inform patients on how to address their various health issues and encourage long term change. Through our programs addressing the social determinants of health we aim to provide beneficiaries with the economic empowerment necessary to facilitate the necessary changes in their life to allow them to have a healthy lifestyle.
