Improving health care for the elderly in Colombia

This year, we’ve focused our efforts on enhancing surgeries for older patients by modernizing medical equipment and optimizing surgical procedures. These improvements are crucial for increasing the precision, safety, and effectiveness of each intervention, raising healthcare standards, and significantly improving the quality of life for our older patients during their hospital stay.

In 2023, Hospital Medellín performed 9,310 surgeries for inpatients and 2,411 for outpatients, while Hospital Rionegro completed 4,245 interventions for inpatients and 1,993 for outpatients. These numbers reflect our capacity and dedication to managing a high volume of surgeries, ensuring comprehensive and quality care for each patient. Additionally, in the cardiovascular and pulmonary areas, which are vital for elderly care, 10,292 tests were conducted at Hospital Medellín and 11,798 at Hospital Rionegro.

To sustain these advancements, it is vital to continue renewing our medical equipment that has reached its lifespan, overcoming technological obsolescence, and ensuring safe and efficient high-complexity medical care.
