A large percentage of the energy is consumed for heating and households participate with about 40 percent of total energy consumption. Despite spending large amounts on heating, a large part of Macedonian citizens continue to live in substandard conditions when it comes to heating their homes. Macedonia is obliged to cut energy costs at least 9% by 2016.
