Hello GlobalGiving donors and partners!
We are so happy that this project is now fully funded and even manage to get extra funds. Again, our heartfelt gratitude to you all, especially to the thirty-two donors who supported this project. We knew that you had other important priorities of your money but you chose to donate part of it because of your generous hearts and belief in the noble cause of this project.
Now that this project is fully funded, our capacity to help the other needy families in the community is enhanced. We’d like to inform you that we had supported the college education of one of the children of a family who lived in the community that was razed by fire in April 2014. A portion of the funds will be used to support the college education of Ritchel, a young student from the community who approached CJFI for educational assistance. She will be third year college taking up education course this coming school opening.
Education is our major intervention in helping the children to give them the opportunity to reach their dreams and hope that they become productive members in the community. We understand you also believe of this principle. Education is a vehicle for a man be freed from the bondage of poverty.
Again, thank you so much for your support. We’d like to let you feel that you are part of our team who share to our cause. Our endeavor is your endeavor. Our success is your success.
Thank you so much.
Greetings of peace, abundance, and joy to GlobalGiving donors.
We would like to inform you that the City Government of Davao City (Philippines) assisted the victims in rebuilding their homes. The City Government initially allocated about 45 million pesos to rebuild the shelters of the victims. No more victims are staying at evacuation centers right now.
Our purpose of appealing for your help was to provide the immediate assistance such as food for the victims. We are so delighted that we have fulfilled this responsibility through your donations and the concerted efforts from our ranks, the people of Davao City, and the City Government of Davao City.
If you could remember, that fire had affected more than 3,000 families generally described as poor because the community razed by fire was squatter area. The estimated damage to properties mostly houses, was at 155,469,840.00 million in Philippines pesos.
Your donations would still be of big help for there are thousands of children in the community who deserve appropriate care and attention. Many of those affected families are still recovering to get their sources of livelihood.
To all donors of this project, we profoundly acknowledge your help and thank you for being with us.
After relief foods, Children’s Joy Foundation, Inc. or CJFI has provided the children affected by the fire that razed their homes and properties, opportunity to play, enjoy and savor overflowing supply of foods. First, was the National Children’s Day. Around 500 fire victim kids had joined this annual festive for children held in Davao City. The celebration is held annually in Davao City where kids from all walks of life, regardless of religion, status, and tribe are given all the excitement and joy that they long in their lives. The idea behind this annual celebration is to allow particularly those destitute children to have a chance in their lifetime to join a holistic enjoyment in their lives. It is a one day celebration where kids can indulge themselves in various fun games, riding in different rides, and treating them with different and overflowing supply of foods. The whole set up of the venue is like a Disneyland where the kids can find the ride he wants to. For the fire victim kids, it was not just an enjoyment but it was also a stress debriefing that released their traumas. Such enjoyment they had would always stay in their memories that they would not forget in their lives.
Another activity held exclusively for kids was Children’s Fun and Talent Day. It allowed the kids to show their talent in dancing and even singing, playing in different games such as parlor games, savor plenty of foods and pamper themselves in beach bathing. About a thousand of kids had participated the gathering from various children caring institutions in Davao City. The activity was actually on its 3rd year hold every September conceptualized for child caring institutions in Davao City. So it has become an annual celebration for kids spearheaded by CJFI. More than two hundred kids from the fire victims were especially invited to join the fun. The kids had enjoyed a full daylight of fun and excitement. So much cheers all we saw in their faces as they pampered themselves in the beach and games.
To all the Donors and Global Giving family, thank you for supporting this cause and being one in this advocacy. There are millions of destitute children in the Philippines who needs the appropriate attention and care so that when they grow up they would become strong pillar in nation building.
The victims of Davao City fire which in April 4, 2014 razed more than 3,000 homes, have sighed of relief when overflowing relief goods reached to the evacuation centers offered by various groups, government agencies, and non-government organizations. Although the houses of the victims were totally eaten up by the merciless fire, the victims have been relieved from distress as the assistance has kept on coming in.
Children’s Joy Foundation, Inc. (CJFI), a Davao City based social welfare development agency (SWDA), was one of the NGOs that quickly responded to the needs of the victims. A day after the disaster which destroyed the 3 coastal barangay communities, CJFI sent overflowing supply of foods to 6 evacuation centers located mostly in public elementary schools.
CJFI has organized a pool of volunteers to look into the needs of the fire victims and to maintain organized food distribution. In its first week of food distribution and feeding especially to kids, CJFI has served about 60% of the victims. Many other groups have made their own initiatives in responding the needs of the victims which results to an overflowing supplies of foods. No victim that hasn’t received his share of the blessings as Davawenos have rhyme in unity to help the victims showing love and generosity.
Councilor Cadungog, one of the most visible barangay officials during the rescue operations, who assisted CJFI volunteers in its feeding and food distribution mission, aired his gratefulness to CJFI for its quick and sustained response to fire victims in his community. He told us that when the fire started, the barangay officials were having their regular session. They were in panic because the fire spread out very quickly due to strong winds coming from the sea. His sense of heroism manifested in his first reaction upon knowing the incident as he went on saving his constituents forgetting his family members. Said he, “I was so thankful to God because after the fire his house was not destroyed. His family was intact, all in safe condition.”
