What's Happening and How to Help

We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of natural disasters like these. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges.

The projects listed below are led by vetted GlobalGiving partners responding to this disaster. You can donate directly to a specific project or to GlobalGiving’s Hurricane Milton Relief Fund and we'll allocate it to where it's needed most. GlobalGiving will post reports about how your donation has been put to use.

Hurricane Relief for 100 people with disabilities.
The Center for Independent Living of Broward and Gulf Coast provides vital support to individuals with disabilities impacted by Hurricanes Milton and Helene. Our services ensure equal access to shelters, disaster relief, housing, and medical supplies, empowering resilience and independence. Expert advocacy, rebuilding wheelchair ramps, debris removal, wheelchairs, meals and specialized adaptive equipment for children facilitate recovery, rebuilding and thriving.
Hurricane Milton Relief
After Hurricane Milton response phase, Unity in Disasters will begin identifying up to 75 displaced families and assist with move-in, relocation essential items. This phase will also focus on the elderly, special needs population and the under- and uninsured by providing assistance with minor home repairs to about 75 homeowners.
Cleanup 5M Pounds of 2024 Florida Hurricane Debris
This ocean cleanup nonprofit, Ocean Blue Project, aims to recover 5 million pounds of plastic and disaster debris from coastal communities, particularly those hardest hit by hurricanes such as Helene and Milton in Florida during 2024. Every 1 U.S. Dollar donated facilitates the recovery of 5 pounds of disaster debris. With climate change and warming waters, support for these communities, along with the marine animals that inhabit them, is more crucial than ever.
Period Packs for Hurricane Survivors
When Hurricanes Helene and Milton hit the coasts of North Carolina and Florida, they left communities facing enormous challenges. In the aftermath, one critical need has often been overlooked: access to period products for the women and girls who are working to rebuild their lives. Periods don't stop during a crisis, and for many displaced women, managing their health with dignity becomes difficult when essential supplies are scarce.
Hurricane Milton Response
Convoy of Hope is on the ground in Florida. Volunteers in Perry, Florida, packed more than 3,000 bags of groceries for our Hurricane Milton response. Additional response vehicles deployed from our World Distribution Center two days ago so distributions can begin once it is safe to do so. In a state already vulnerable from Hurricane Helene, there will be great need all over Florida's Gulf Coast. Convoy of Hope is there to ensure people have what they need to begin recovery.
Hurricane Survival Kits to 100 Migrant Families
The Florida Immigrant Coalition will deliver 100 hurricane survival kits with water, non-perishable food items, first aid kits, and power banks to 100 migrant families in Florida who can't access State disaster aid due to their immigration status. This leaves these migrant families extremely vulnerable to the destruction resulting from hurricanes which are a frequent natural disaster in Florida. With your help we can provide these critical resources to keep migrant families in Florida safe.
Project HOPE Responds to Hurricane Helene & Milton
Project HOPE is actively responding to both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, addressing critical needs in affected communities. In North Carolina, teams are distributing health and WASH supplies while providing mental health support, while in Florida, the Emergency Response team is coordinating with partners to deliver aid to those impacted by Hurricane Milton's catastrophic landfall.

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
