The Hunger-Free Education Program at Tarkwa Breman Girls' School, supported by Cocoa360, is more than just a meal - it's a lifeline for students in rural cocoa communities who are often faced with poverty, deprivation, and limited amenities. For many of these children, the hot lunch they receive every day is the only nutritious meal they will have all day, and without it, they would struggle to stay focused in class and keep up with their studies.
Our significant reduction in school-going age from eight (8) to three (3) years in the eight (8) rural cocoa farming communities can be attributed to incentives including free tuition, transport, uniforms, books, meals, and many others. The hardworking parents of our 270 girls volunteer at the community cocoa farm to make these possible.
This project will augment the efforts of the parents in providing access to quality education to their girls. It will ensure that the girls are adequately fed, which impacts their academic and physical growth.
Our model aims at making these girls health champions by eradicating the barriers to accessing the social determinants of life; Healthcare and education. Eight rural cocoa farming communities will be free from malnutrition, have better opportunities in life, and secure the future of the people responsible for the sweet cocoa products we enjoy.
