This project - it is a movement to create an accessible environment for people with disabilities and injuries from the Russian Attacks and bombing. The question is that in Ukrainian infrastructure historically in transport medical and educational institutions have been locking for the people with disabilities. Unfortunately the number of people with injuries is rising and this is reality in Ukraine today. We providing our social taxi for our citizens who faced with this questions.
Historically Ukraine has a number of people with disabilities, and during the last three years of war the number of injured people unfortunately is rising. This is our reality today. The main problem is that our citizens who got injured, or who has disabilities from birth, faced with the lock of common conditions like elevators, ramps and specialized public transport. Some times a person can not go out from his home for months, because he or she is alone, and no one can help them to go outside.
Thanks to our project Odesa becoming more accessible for people with disabilities through the development of social infrastructure and barrier-free programs. A significant step in creating an inclusive urban environment is the launch of the social taxi project, designed to provide convenient and safe transportation for people with disabilities. We already have six specialized buses, however it is very less for 6500 persons with disabilities. Our volunteers personally escorted people.
The initiative aims not only to improve mobility for people with disabilities in Odesa but also to showcase a successful model for other cities across Ukraine, where accessibility remains a pressing issue. The realization of the project is going with full support of the Mayor of Odessa, so potential long term impact will be the network of the social taxi for people with disabilities in every city of Ukraine. The main aspect is the empowerment of the people and providing the excess to resources.
