When President Obama signed the Patient Protect and Affordable bill into law, it mandated $1.5 billion in federal funds for states to expand home visitation programs like ours. In anticipation of the increase in demand for services, Nurse-Family Partnership needs to bolster its infrastructure to adequately meet these needs.
One of our projects is an upgrade of our IT system so we can better handle and analyze data that nurse home visitors are required to enter after each visit. This will also eliminate unnecessary work. The project will also give us better ability to generate reports.
A RAND Corporation 2005 analysis found a net benefit to society of $34,148 (in 2003 dollars) per family served, with the bulk of the savings accruing to government, equating to a $5.70 return for every dollar invested in Nurse-Family Partnership. When Medicaid pays for Nurse-Family Partnership services, the Federal government saves more than it spends on the program costs, according to a 2009 analysis conducted by the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation.
