Expansion of Horse Program for 30 Horses

Raised Remaining

Expand Horse Program funds to address increased needs of neglected horses due to severe drought/hay shortage problem. Increased funding will provide shelter for 30 additional equine.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Due to severe drought conditions across the United States, an alarming increase in horse neglect is occurring due to a shortage of affordable hay for horse owners. This project is geographically designated for North Carolina, Virginia and Indiana as these are the states of operation for the horse programs. This will enable USERL to expand the number of horses allowed in the program needing shelter from malnutrition and starvation.

How will this project solve this problem?

By expanding our horse program funding, USERL can take in a larger number of neglected horses needing immediate shelter and care for survival. The program covers all veterinary costs, hay and feed, as well as farrier expenses until adoption.

Potential Long Term Impact

This project will allow more horses to be sheltered during this time of increased need due to drought/hay shortage, thereby helping to alleviate county officials concerns of where horses will go when faced with an increase in horse neglect cases.
