Thank you so much for supporting the Horn of Africa Crisis Appeal. The drought that hit East Africa has caused loss and devastation for thousands of people.
Retrak asked for your support to help us deal with an increasing number of children on the streets, an issue that is a direct result of the droughts. Our partners in Kenya have reported that it is not just the areas directly affected by the drought that are seeing this impact, the cost of living is being pushed up for the whole country. Despite ongoing efforts from the government and charities, the cost of food is rising dramatically and although in some areas there is still a surplus of food there are no mechanisms to distribute the food across the country. Many families in East Africa can only afford one small meal a day. When this combines with other stress factors many children in these families turn to the streets to look for work and food. They quickly get swept up into street life becoming even more at risk. Many of these children are as young as 8 or 9 years old.
Thanks to the money that you donate to Retrak we are able to reach out to these children and offer them an alternative to life on the streets. We can offer food, medical care and shelter for these vulnerable children. Our ultimate goal is to be able to return these street children home.
Thank you for supporting the Horn of Africa Crisis Appeal and making a difference to the lives of children who are forced to live on the streets because of these droughts.
