This project targets 200 abused school drop-out girls and young mothers in Kenya with education or vocational training in realizing their dreams for a better future and for their families. Trainings to cover rights, life skills, alcohol, drugs and substance abuse, legal support, capacity building on reproductive health and services, linkages to business financial support services, referral services for care and support, teen mothers' community integration, peer counseling and mentoring.
In Kenya, 378,397 adolescent girls age 10-19 years became pregnant between 2016-2018 with 13,000 yearly school drop-outs, thus limiting their economic and educational growth. Girls sitting 2018 National Exams were highly affected with Coastal counties leading. In Taita Taveta, 13% of girls gave birth in 2014 and is leading in Female Genital Mutilation at 61.3%. Tana River had 28% of teenage girls giving birth in the same year. Mombasa reported 3,000 cases in 2017 while Kwale 13,624 in 2018.
We shall ensure strong personality development (self-esteem); provide trainings that offer opportunities for employment; build resilience and life skills for survival; expand business opportunities through linkages to financial support; expand reproductive health services access through referrals; help teenage mothers in community integration ; work with schools, colleges for education/vocational trainings; provide legal support services to sexually abused while sensitizing them on their rights.
Project to deliver 200 girls, young mothers and their families from poverty, enhanced social inclusion, reduced teen pregnancies, improved legal protection/case definitions on girl child abuses/rape, improved family and reproductive health outcomes and contraceptives uptake, improved school enrollment and vocational training uptake by abused teens for skills development, employment and societal integration with good school/college entry and exit correlations.
