This project has been developed to support education for 222 deaf children in special primary schools. The project is designed to enable deaf children acquire holistic education,complete their full round of primary education and develop to their fullest potential in securing a safe and bright future.
The challenges that deaf/hearing-impaired children encounter when learning are many and far-reaching, there are several issues which act as a barrier to deaf/hearing-impaired children's education. This problems include: stigma and neglect by family due to cultural beliefs, sexual harassment like defilement, rape on deaf girls by close relatives and friends, lack of sufficient/healthy feeding, lack of school fees and learning materials, poor/lack of clothing.
This project has designed feeding support for 222 deaf children in primary school for two years, contribution towards their school fees, provision of clothing and scholastic materials, training a few sign language teachers in counseling, sexual reproductive rights education(SRHR) for adolescent deaf children and ICT, establishing 2 computer labs in 2 schools to aid learning, trips for experiential learning with natural environment/community, training deaf adolescents on SRHR and life skills.
This project will empower 222 deaf children in primary school both boys and girls. These children will be develop to their full potential as productive contributors to the development processes in their communities and the country at large. Change of attitude, parents and community members will understand that children born with disability are not a curse and can contribute equally in society like any other normal child and they should be well taken care of like other children.
