We set out to enable community members to react to their AIDS problem by providing them with education, counseling and services that help them to fight AIDS.We run a medical clinic and community work.
This is a very poor rural community of 28,000 people that has transport difficulties to reach any hospital. There are many AIDS patients and many orphans under the care of grandmothers. People don't know if they are infected with HIV. So they can not seek ARVs, even when ARVs are available at the main hospital. Some people are also unknowingly infecting their sexual partners. HIV testing is very much needed to save this community. Little kids and their grandmothers also need malaria treatment
HIV counseling and testing. Malaria testing and treatment. Medicines to treat and prevent general infections among people infected with HIV. AIDS education using drama competitions. Community volunteers provide counseling about HIV to people at home.
The long term impact is for the community to be aware of their HIV/AIDS problem and to be able to respond to it. A reduction in HIV in the community. A reduction in the suffering due to AIDS. A reduction in death due to malaria and AIDS.
