Youth in Yei ,Yambio and Mundri have little access to appropriate HIV services and that puts their lives at potential risk of HIV infection because they have unsafe sex and low knowledge on HIV.The project will increase peer education outreaches to the three areas, and with the collaboration of HIV/STI & ART service providers from the hospitals, provide friendly outreach services, working in these settings to improve and sustain the demand for comprehensive HIV prevention among the youth.
This project will address the following problems (1) Low level knowledge and information on HIV transmission and prevention among youth (2) High level of stigma and discrimination on people living positive (3) 70% of South Sudan population are youth and increasing rate of new infections among the youth is worsening putting South Sudan future at stake. (4) Low condom use (5) No Access to quality HIV prevention services among the youth in the three project locations
This project aimed at reducing HIV Infection among the youth through Training of Peer educators. Conducting weekly door-to-door Peer Education sessions to increase information, Targeted HIV Counselling and Testing & Sexual Transmitted Infections outreach services , Promotion, demonstration and distribution of condoms ,Conduct Defaulter tracing among youth PLHIV ,Youth community-based referrals ,Monitoring and Evaluation and conduct radio talk-shows.
(1) Reduced participation in high-risk sexual and substance-using behaviours e.g. unsafe sex among target group (2) Increased HIV prevention knowledge, skills and practices among 1000 youth in the targeted three locations (3) Improved health seeking behaviours especially for STI & HIV treatment among 200 target groups
