Solapur district with population of (43.17 lac) in Maharashtra state has 30 blocks and Barshi is one of the block consist 7% (3.22 lac) of the district population. Barshi city is a well known as a top red light area in Solapur District. We identified 115 out of 250 HIV infected children with single or without parents. The parent of HIV infected children monthly average income is Rs. 3000 and most of the parents of these children are also HIV infected.
Children living with HIV cannot get proper education. But every child has the right to an education, but without uniforms, shoes, books, and school exam fees, needy and orphaned children are unable to attend school. This is a particularly pressing issue in rural area of Barshi, where over 50,000 children have lost their parents to AIDS/HIV. In Barshi Block alone, there are more than 500 needy children. Without access to education, these children have little hope for a better future.
By supporting the education of Barshi's orphaned and needy children, AF will help pave the way for a brighter future for these children and for Barshi. The educational and social benefits of education will empower them for generations.
