The HIV/ AIDS prevention mechanisms are not existing in refugees community yet this disease has been rampant in many people and refugees are not excluded. Many have been sexually abused.
On one side refugees are victims of sexual exploitation when they come to Uganda and this has exposed to them HIV-AIDS epidemic. On the other hand many refugees were raped and sexually abused in their countries of origin by armed groups and became HIV positive.
All HIV prevention mechanisms and campaigns against HIV/AIDs here in Uganda are done in English and other local languages for the hosting communities. Refugees are totally left out and yet they are more exposed to this HIV/AIDS epidemic because they cannot understand nor speak the local languages.
In the process of getting medical care they are always victims of stigma and discrimination and many do not fell the courage to come up openly. Refugees are losing their lives yet they can be helped.
This project will offer information to refugees about HIV/AIDs in their own languages which they know better and take care for those who are infected, especially chldren and women who will have basis needs and access medication.
Then it will focus on the advocacy part so that refugees are not left out during the national planning issues and also to get the services from humanitarian institutions which will be time to time informed about it among refugee communities.
Reduce the HIV/AIDS rates among refugee communities and combat against ignorance of the disease among refugees.
