Access Health Initiative is dedicated to support community members awareness on HIV/AIDS through use of Education campaign, IEC materials, Drama, Video, Leaflets,Community Educators at Makete District in Njombe Region which has the highest HIV prevalence at 14.8%. The disease is mainly transmitted through heterosexual intercourse and perinatal transmission, risky sexual behavior, However, community members are ignorant on how the epidemic is transmitted. Project cost is US$33,140
The prevalence of HIV at Makete District Njombe Region is high and increasing with big number of orphans due to AIDS. The epidemic has killed many energetic people coupled with misery and poverty with visible social and economic down turn in the area. There is inadequate allocation of resources for support services. Orphans homes' are not friendly to children, Stigma contributes to lack of data and information on orphans, increase of street children, HIV/AIDS epidemic is across sectors.
Will collaborate with Local Government, and stakeholders including community members to support HIV/AIDS Education campaign in 3 wards : Iniho,Ipelele and Kigulu where community meetings will be held in all 39 sub-villages.Education campaign to use powerful approaches of Drama and Traditional Dance Groups,community educators,IEC materials,Video, leaflets which will carry powerful messages on how to avoid the epidemic data for orphans and street children will be collected for support.
Reduction of spread of epidemic and associated diseases, improved health status of community members, an improved social and economic well being of community members, steady reduction of orphans, reduction of new infections, sustained increase of awareness of the epidemic and means to protect themselves
