The 'Mauricio Garrigou Foundation' is a non-profit organization helping students with intellectual disabilities to expand their learning capabilities and improve their life opportunities through technology. Based at the 'Maria Corredentora' School in Madrid, the foundation uses a suite of bespoke apps which have been specifically developed to help students aged 4 to 20 acquire better writing, reading and mathematical skills.
Education for people with intellectual disabilities is the vehicle for their integration into society and the way to promote that integration and preparation for working life. Families are frustrated by not having resources to offer their children, and ordinary schools are not prepared or equipped with staff and experts in intellectual disability equipment. Our aim is to provide them with technology and digital material that would help these people to get the best quality of education possible.
We have developed a mobile app to assist people with disabilities, and it reached more than 6K downloads worldwide. Investigations say that this kind of app manages to help people with disabilities to develop their position in society. Once we achieve the budget these activities will be organized: Periodical evaluation to measure the level of satisfaction and knowledge test to measure the results. Keep sharing the app worldwide. People with disabilities around the world will benefit from it.
298 students of this Spanish school will get direct benefit from this activity. But once the app and digital material we created is shared with the world, families with children with intellectual disabilities throughout Spain and Latin America would be also able use it, so it would have a great impact on this collectivity. On a third stage and if budget allows, we would like to translate the App and the digital material into English so more people would get a benefit.
