Dear LCP supporters and Friends
Timothy is a graduate from the first cohort of students in the Liberia Career Pathways in school career clubs. Tim was raised by a single mother who does petit business in one of Monrovia’s general markets. Due to very low income and unable to support Tim and his two siblings, Tim moved in with his aunt at an early age.
During the pre-entry interview with Tim to understand his background, he expressed his strong desire to change the financial trajectory of his family. He believed education is the best way to do this but uncertain about which educational track to take.
After Tim’s high school graduation, the third of three children, said, during his exit interview, “the Liberia Career Pathways program has opened my eyes to see beyond the circumstances within my own family and the larger environment of poor conditions in my country, Liberia. The Center for Career Discovery has been an inspiration to help me see a larger future. Poverty in my family and this country has imposed on someone like myself and other students, limited vision, and somewhat doubtful of what life will be like in the future.”
Tim, who is now freshman at the university of Liberia, further stated during his exit interview, that going through LCP programs has helped him refined his career path. “I want to be an economist to understand how money works, and Liberia Career Pathways has help to refine my thinking about what I want to be in the future. While in college I will continue to visit the Center for Career Discovery, and if a volunteer opportunity becomes available for me to be a mentor, I will be happy to do so.”
Liberia Career Pathways is happy to participate in Timothy’s decision making about the trajectory of his own life, that of his family and Liberia. Liberia’s population is made up 65% youth. We at Liberia Career Pathways are fully aware that when we empower youth we will affect the nation’s future in lasting ways.
We thank you, friends of Liberia Career Pathways for joining us in impacting the youths of Liberia and strengthening the future of this nation. With your ongoing support we will continue to deliver proven, successful models to help students prepare for college and in-demand careers needed for Liberia’s economic growth.
