“I have personal experience of domestic violence. It’s a hugely isolating experience. It was only earlier this year that I reached out. There’s always this fear that no one will believe you, and I put up with it for such a long time because I didn’t realise there was all this help out there” - said by Beatie (not real name) a young woman we are supporting.
Thank you, donor, for helping us to give girls and young women like Beatie: a personal attack alarm; help them get to court to give evidence against their abusers; and more importantly, hope.
"HALT really supported me through it. They’re advocates; they help in terms of the police and court cases. Most people wouldn’t have gone through the legal system so they explain everything and make it easy and simple - they’re your representatives in the whole process. They also told me about this thing called, ‘Clare’s Law’. If there are warning signs, or if anyone is concerned, it allows individuals to find out a partners history. It could be invaluable to someone, and may even save their life."
I was so overwhelmed by the support I received that I decided to give something back. I feel strongly about a charity which supports women to be empowered individuals.”
