We started the month of August with the presentation of our program "Paisaje Brunca Sostenible: Restoration of ecosystems and socioeconomic strengthening of indigenous, peasant and coastal communities of the South Pacific of Costa Rica" to our allies and beneficiaries.
This program aims to promote adaptation actions in four communities of the Brunca Region, among them the indigenous territories of Térraba and Boruca and the peasant-coastal communities of Palmar Sur and Ciudad Cortés, in order to increase the well-being of people and ecosystems, as well as to strengthen the connectivity between the La Amistad International Park, the Grande de Térraba river, the Térraba Sierpe National Wetland and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Delta del Diquís.
To achieve this, we will develop actions in the rehabilitation of the forest landscape, nature-based businesses, education, volunteering, sustainable construction, governance and research, through three strategic axes: Restoration of ecosystems, capacity building and awareness of climate change.
Women entrepreneurs, mothers, heads of household, landowners, among others, will be the main beneficiaries of this new program, as well as groups organized for specific economic purposes, associations, and families and members of the communities in general.
We estimate that, at the end of the program, up to 2,000 people will be positively impacted by these actions and will be able to improve their quality of life, diversifying development opportunities, in coexistence with the ecosystems.
This is a program that has received support from entities such as the European Union through the Small Donations Program for the 5 Large Forests of Mesoamerica, the French Embassy in Costa Rica through the PISSCA Fund, Fundecooperación through the Adapta2 Fund and Global Landscapes Forum through the Semilleros program, in conjunction with many other great allies, including GlobalGiving.
We are deeply grateful to our donors, who through their support have contributed to the creation and development of this important initiative, and we invite them to continue planting a future with us in this exciting stage that is just beginning.
- Regards from the whole Dìwö Team.
