Help Women with HIV and AIDS with 10 Chickens

by Communities in Development Activities

This project will provide 5000 Black Australorp chickens to 500 women living positively with HIV and AIDS in Mzimba District, Malawi. HIV has devastated most women, the already economically vulnerable group in Malawi. these women can not afford three meals in a day. Their economic muscle is still hovering below a dollar in a day. Most of them are on life prolonging drugs, ARVs and some of them are looking after an extended family of 8. The chickens will provide women with meat and eggs.
total goal

Malawi's HIV prevalence is one of the highest in the world, with 10.6% of the adult population (aged 15-64) living with HIV. The Malawian HIV epidemic plays a critical role in the country's low life expectancy of just 57 years for men and 60 years for women. HIV disproportionately affects women in comparison to men in Malawi. Women in Mzimba are extremely poor and vulnerable and possess no excess capacity to survive additional burdens. They have no food and very little means of finding one.

This project will help these women with Capacity to rear and produce own food. The project will provide them with start up capital in Black Australorp Chickens on pass on basis. upon reproduction, each beneficiary will pay back 5. These chickens are for both Meat and eggs. Excess meat and eggs will be sold to acquire extra income for other household needs. The chickens will provide a perfect fall back for the women living positively or affected with HIV and AIDS in Mzimba district, Malawi

Long-Term Impact

By the end of 5 years, 500 women will have 10 chickens each. The chicken will provide a perfect fall back for the women in times of dire economic strike. women will be economically empowered. they will be trained in business management skills. all the villages in which the project will be implemented will have formed Village Savings and loans groups through which economically hit women will be taught skills of saving and multiplying. women will have their self esteem strongly built.
