NORTHCODE-Ghana plans to restore biodiversity loss around the Mole National Park by supporting 150 women in 8 fringe Communities with bee keeping, tree planting and skills training to enable them adopt sustainable income generating activities thereby reducing their overdependence and overexploitation of a designated Community Resource Management Area called the Jilinkon/Kunlog ''Community Resource Management Area'', fringing the Mole National Park Reserve for their livelihood and income.
Ghana's largest protected park, the Mole National Park covers over 4,500 km and its home to biodiversity and natural resources. The Park is surrounded by 33 communities with an estimated population of 35,000 people. Recent surveys confirm that while its wildlife is under serious threat from poaching, its large tracks of land and vegetation is under threat as a result of negative environmental practices. Empowering Women economically can be the solution to reversing the trend of degradation.
Restoration of degraded lands with Non Forest Tree species, provision of bee hives, skills training and financial literacy education for beneficiary women and People with Disabilities, eg (Hive production using local materials, good apiary site selection, harvesting, honey and wax processing, value-added processing methods, packaging, market identification and entrepreneurial skills training, nursery establishment). This will provide a sustainable income and reduce environmental degradation
